FOSSIL HUNTING IN THE MOLAR

Go fossil hunting in the 54 million-year-old pier and see if you can find Danes or fossilized fish poo. The pier has a rich content of exciting fossils (fossilizations) and with a minimum of knowledge and a little patience it is possible to make exciting finds. These can tell you a lot about what the world looked like 54-55 million years ago.
Accompanied by a geologist/naturalist guide from the museum, you will search for fossils in the molar. Along the way, the students will be introduced to some of the geological processes that have made it possible to find fossils here. On the tours, we will also discuss volcanism and link it to the ash layers found in the molar.
The program can be age-differentiated and it is possible to include topics such as evolution, volcanism, plate tectonics, ice ages, museum collecting, the interaction between humans and nature and landscape geography, if desired. Contact us for more information.

Subjects: Science and technology, geography, science and physical geography (but also for other subjects)
Duration: 1½ – 2 hours
Max. participants: Usually 1-2 classes but we can handle larger groups if arranged well in advance
Location: Bette Jenses Hyw

GEOLOGICAL TOUR AT FUR MUSEUM

Take a tour of the Fur Museum exhibition with one of the museum’s geologists. The museum houses a unique collection of 54 million-year-old fossils from the molar rock (diatomite): fish, birds, turtles, insects, trees and plants. You can visit the exhibition independently or have one of the museum’s geologists show you around and answer questions. There will be opportunities to include topics such as dinosaurs, evolution, fossils, paleoecology, paleoclimate and geology in general in the tours. It will also be possible to choose lectures on the interaction between humans and nature or landscape geography if desired. The tour can also be used as preparation for a fossil hunt in the molar.

Subjects: Science and technology, geography, science and physical geography (but also for other subjects)
Duration: approx. 1 hour
Max. participants: 1 class at a time, but team sharing is possible for larger groups

WHAT DO WE FIND AT THE BEACH

Fur Museum can offer you the opportunity to bring a nature guide/geologist to the beach. On the beaches along Fur’s coastline, you can find stones that tell the story of the coming and going of the dinosaurs, how the ice ages have shaped the landscape, giant volcanoes in Greenland and much, much more. On this hike, the emphasis will be on the variety of rocks that exist and the stories they can tell. There will also be the opportunity to include what else we find in the way of snail shells, shells, seaweed, etc. to talk about life in the fjord.

Topics that can be brought up as desired: Rock throwing, piers, volcanism, ice ages, animals and water quality in the Limfjord.

Subjects: Science and technology, biology
Duration: approx. 2 hours
Max. participants: 2 classes. For larger groups, call for details
Location: To be arranged
